Description: The Austin Children’s Museum is looking for individuals who are available 5-10 hours per week to provide an exceptional customer service experience to museum patrons while managing the cash register and customer interaction. Additional duties may include pricing, unpacking orders, straightening merchandise, breaking down boxes, organizing storage areas, and preparing retail bags.
Shifts: Shifts are available Tuesday through Friday and generally last for 5 hours. (9:00-2:00 or 1:00-6:00 Tuesday- Friday). Must have reliable attendance and transportation.
Training provided/ required:
• General Volunteer orientation.
• Shadow Store Manager/Store MOD or experienced Store Employee for a minimum of 2 shifts.
Commitment: At least 20 hours per month for 6 months
Considerations: Museum Store volunteers must be energetic and able to walk or stand for long periods. Experience and/or interest in retail or customer service preferred. Volunteers must be able to work independently as well as with the Customer Service team. Volunteers must be willing to perform some minor cleaning duties (dusting or sanitizing store, breaking down boxes for recycling, organizing storage area). Comfort in working with adults and children of all ages, race, abilities and background required. Spanish fluency helpful.
How to apply: All new volunteers will need to complete an application, background check and orientation. The application is available at the link below. Orientations are held every first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Museum.October orientation cancelled. The next new volunteer orientation will be held on Wednesday, November 5th. Dinner is served for all orientations so RSVP is required.
