Discover the amazing powers and properties of air!
Air is at work all around us.
It is a familiar and accessible medium for playful investigations that provide first-hand experiences with physical science concepts relating to air, sound and weather. As students ask questions, make predictions, describe their observations and share their ideas, they gain skills in the processes of investigation and reasoning.
13 highly interactive experiences make science touchable and develop students’ intuitive understanding of how air moves, how moving air affects objects in its path and how objects in turn affect the movement of air.

En Mi Familia /In My Family is the country’s only hands-on exhibit inspired by the works of nationally-recognized artist and author Carmen Lomas Garza.
The exhibit brings to life 4 of Carmen’s joyful family scenes to:
- Spark recognition and pride in Mexican American culture heritage
- Invite students to compare cultural traditions and reflect on how their own family builds their unique personal and cultural identity
- Boost English language learners’ emergent literacy skills with linguistically and culturally relevant activities and narratives that connect meaningfully to their lives
- Demonstrate the power of family narratives and source materials to build sense of self and cultural pride
In each area, students can touch, see, hear and even smell the everyday activities and special celebrations depicted in Carmen’s paintings and bilingual storybooks, hear Carmen herself tell her stories in Spanish and English and get the cultural backstory on traditional foods, music and celebration.
